Necklaces call attention to a woman's neck line and even to her bosom depending on what she is wearing. Necklaces are also worn by men for decorative purposes. They are often worn by men in the entertainment industry.

A necklace is often formed with a metal chain. Necklaces can also be adorned with other items like pearls and gems. Less expensive necklaces have rocks, wood, and shells adorning them.

Often a locket or pendant is attached to necklaces. The locket may hold an object of sentimental value. For example, photos are frequently tucked away in lockets.
