Throughout history jewelry was worn to display wealth. It also had practical purposes and was used to pin clothes together and for storage. Some anthropologists believe that it is now mostly worn for decoration.

Jewelry is worn by both men and women. Today women wear more jewelry than men. Men are making more of a pronounced fashion statement when they wear an earring, necklace, or chain.

Jewelry needs to be properly taken care of. Consumers should store jewels in original packaging or purchase a jewelry box. In addition, precious gems will occasionally need to be cleaned.
